I was born in Chester in 1975 and came down to Falmouth to study Fine Art at the college from '96 to '99, and have since settled there (for the time being!).

The Great Atlantic Mapworks Gallery at St Just in Penwith took me on at my degree show, and I have enjoyed showing regularly with them over the last four years. My other regular galleries are Brian Sinfield in Oxfordshire and Thompsons Galleries, London, both of whom I have shown with for a number of years.

Highlights in my career so far include a commission of twelve paintings and 312 prints of those paintings, for permanent display on the Cunard Liner Queen Mary II. Another proud moment was winning second prize in the Hunting Art Prizes 2004, a competition with over 1,800 entering artists.

My Painting is based on what I see everyday in and around Falmouth harbour or when I go further afield to the North and South coast beaches for a surf. I study these places regularly and sometime sketch on site, although I usually paint from memory and through experimentation. My studio work is down to decisions based on instinct rather than theory. Often the subject of my painting becomes secondary to the emerging pattern of abstract areas, which must be evaluated and perhaps edited for the sake of the overall composition.
